MANILA, Philippines — Twelve individuals were arrested for offering dental services without the proper licenses, the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP ACG) said.

This was the result of 10 entrapment operations across the country in May 2025, PNP ACG explained in a statement on Wednesday, without immediately detailing where specifically the operations took place.

“This marks a significant increase in enforcement activity, as no similar operations were recorded during the same period in the previous year,” the police said.

“These operations stemmed from proactive cyber patrolling where operatives identified advertisements for unlicensed dental services on online platforms,” it added.

PNP ACG noted that the operations involved coordination with the Philippine Dental Association and the Professional Regulation Commission.

In another statement on Wednesday, PNP ACG said authorities arrested two individuals for practicing dentistry without a license in Kidapawan City, Cotabato last Thursday afternoon.

The suspects were identified as “Gerald,” 24; and “Julia,” 20, a supposedly newly-wed couple.

“Operatives discovered a Facebook page managed by the suspects, offering various dental procedures, including oral prophylaxis, teeth whitening, and dental braces, at significantly lower prices, and falsely presenting themselves as licensed dental professionals,” ACG said.

“Further investigation revealed that the couple offered their services either through home visits or at a makeshift clinic. ‘Julia’ was found to be the one performing the dental procedures, assisted by her husband,” it added.

The police further noted that the Philippine Dental Association confirmed neither suspects had a license to do dental operations.

Both suspects face charges for violating Republic Act 9484 or the Philippine Dental Act, in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act. /cb
