MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine Air Force (PAF) have discussed plans to regularly conduct a maritime domain awareness (MDA) within the Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) joint operations area.
In a statement on Wednesday, the PCG said its officials met with PAF and Nolcom Commander Lt. Gen. Fernyl Buca on June 3, and they agreed to join forces in conducting an intensified MDA in the area.

MDA is the “effective understanding of anything associated with the maritime domain that could impact security, safety, the economy, or the marine environment.”
According to the PCG, this move is aligned with the vision of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for PCG “to strategically heighten MDA within the country’s waters.”
Aside from this, the agency said that the Nolcom delegation also “presented its concept of operations on external security operations.”
Also present during the meeting were other officials of the PCG, PAF, Philippine Navy, and Philippine Army.
