NCRPO, IBP sign deal that will give legal aid, education to police officers

MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) formalized a deal to provide legal assistance and education for the police officers in Metro Manila.

The two organizations signed a memorandum of agreement at the NCRPO’s headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City on Wednesday.

The partnership is aimed at “providing legal counseling, assistance and education to uniformed personnel, particularly those facing service-related legal challenges,” the NCRPO said in a statement after the event.

Another goal of the deal is to “enhance officers’ legal expertise through re-education, equipping them with up-to-date knowledge of existing laws to ensure fair and effective law enforcement,” the regional office  added.

In a radio interview earlier on Wednesday, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III pushed for continuing legal education for police officers to keep them up-to-date with changes in the laws.

“Collaboration with legal experts will further enhance officers’ comprehension and application of the law, foster professionalism and reinforce public trust,” the NCRPO further said./apl
