SAN ANTONIO, Zambales – A missing 17-year-old boy was found dead Tuesday on Magalawa Island in Palauig town in this province.
Commander Euphraim Jayson Diciano, head of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in the province, said the teenager had been missing since Sunday (June 1), when he reportedly jumped off a bridge in Barangay Lipay, Palauig.
Authorities searched for him along the river beneath the bridge in Barangay Lipay and neighboring Barangay San Juan but were initially unsuccessful.
After almost two days of searching, Diciano said they received a phone call at 7:31 a.m. from a disaster response team on Tuesday, informing them that a body —presumed to be that of the missing teenager—had been sighted along the shoreline of Barangay Magalawa.
Personnel from the Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Palauig and other response teams, aboard a rented boat, immediately proceeded to the area and confirmed that the body was that of the missing boy.
The body was retrieved and later turned over to a funeral home before being properly handed over to his family. INQ
