MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspended the license of the driver of the truck that caused a multi-vehicle crash killing three people late Wednesday night in Quezon City.
The incident stemmed from a brake failure on the 10-wheeler truck plying Batasan-San Mateo Road on the way to Marikina City, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
The LTO “preventively suspended for 90 days the license of driver of a truck which caused multiple vehicle collisions that resulted in the death of three people and injury of at least seven others,” the agency said in a statement on Thursday.
Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II, LTO chief, also placed the truck on alert pending investigation.
“The suspension and alarm were already stipulated in the show cause order sent to the registered owner of the truck and the driver,” the LTO said.

The driver faces an administrative case of reckless driving and improper person to operate a motor vehicle case, according to the agency.
The registered owner of the truck was also asked to explain why they should not be sanctioned for “hiring a reckless driver.”
The QCPD earlier said it already had custody of the driver, whom they said awaits charges for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
