MANILA, Philippines — Three people died in a multi-vehicle crash along Batasan-San Mateo Road in Quezon City on Wednesday night, the police said on Thursday.
The incident was caused by a brake failure on a 10-wheeler truck bound for Marikina City, according to a statement released by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).
“The vehicle lost control, causing its container to detach and fall onto the center aisle in front of a Shell gasoline station,” it added.
The truck crashed into a sedan, veered into the opposite lane, struck a street lamp post, and crashed into three motorcycles, a sports utility vehicle, and the generator engine of a supermarket, according to the police.
The crash “instantly [killed] one rider. A second fatality, a male pedestrian waiting at a nearby shed, also died on the spot,” the QCPD said.
“Seven individuals sustained injuries [and] were rushed to Rosario Maclang Hospital and East Avenue Medical Center for immediate medical treatment,” it added. “Unfortunately, one of the injured was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.”
