Senior officer as next PNP chief will continue reforms – Marbil

More senior PNP chief to impose reforms - Marbil

 

MANILA, Philippines — A “more senior” officer who will be the next Philippine National Police  chief will continue reforms in the national police force,  current PNP chief Gen. Rommel Marbil said on Thursday.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in a media briefing in Malaysia last Tuesday, announced that his choice as the next PNP chief is a “very senior officer,” but refused to name him.

“If they’re more senior, it will be better for the PNP so that our reforms will continue, the internal cleansing, the changes, the good service to the PNP and our people,” Marbil said in a chance interview with reporters in Quezon City on Thursday.

Among those reported to be in the running for the next PNP chief are Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. and Area Police Command Western Mindanao Lt. Gen. Bernard Banac, both graduates of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1992.

Also said to be the running are Chief of the Directorial Staff Lt. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III and National Capital Region Police Office Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, all of whom are graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 1993.
