MANILA, Philippines—Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil hopes his successor will continue the reforms within the police force.
Marbil said this in an interview with reporters at Camp Crame on Wednesday, with less than three weeks left until his term extension expires on June 7.
“I don’t go for legacy. We want continuity… Reforms, changes, and improvements should be continued,” he said.
Marbil emphasized the need to improve the PNP’s promotion system and strengthen training programs for officers.
“Mandatory continuous learning, education about the law, that’s what we want,” he said.
Selection process
Last Monday, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was already in the process of selecting the next PNP chief.

Among those being considered for the post are the following:
- PNP Deputy Chief for Administration Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.
- PNP Chief of the Directorial Staff Lt. Gen. Edgar Allan Okubo
- Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Director Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III
- National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin
“They’re all great. There will be no comparison. They each have their strengths. Of course, they have weaknesses, but everybody’s capable,” Marbil said.
When asked if he would accept other positions after his term as PNP chief, Marbil said, “No matter what, we help the Philippine National Police.”
