MANILA, Philippines — A Manila police officer faces administrative cases after drawing his firearm at a motorcycle rider, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.
The officer was charged with grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming of a police officer, the PNP said in a statement on Thursday night.
The cop was assigned to a voting center in Santa Ana, Manila on election day when the incident occurred in the afternoon.
“This driver, because he was rushing, continuously hit his top box, and he was asking the officer to move. But the police said he couldn’t move because there was a truck in front of him,” Manila Police District Public Information Office Chief Maj. Philipp Ines said in a briefing on Friday.
“He was forced to move, and he was being spoken to with bad words,” he added.
This prompted the officer to draw his firearm, the PNP said in the statement.
“Responding police personnel assigned to the police assistance desk at the polling center immediately intervened. Both parties were later brought to the barangay for settlement,” it added.
