Manny Pacquiao leads Senate bets of Binay’s UNA party — source

The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has named 11 of its 12 senatorial candidates for the 2016 elections.

A source privy to the UNA’a selection committee said the following in the slate are original party members:

  1. Boxing champion Manny Pacquiao
  2. Actress and Parañaque councilor Alma Moreno
  3. Sulu Princess Jacel Kiram
  4. Sacked Special Action Force chief Getulio Napeñas
  5. Veteran broadcaster Rey Langit
  6. Atty. Allan Montaño

Meanwhile, the following are UNA’s guest candidates:

  1. Senator Vicente Sotto III from the Nationalist People’s Coalition
  2. Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez from Lakas party
  3. Independent candidate Panfilo Lacson
  4. Former Senator Migz Zubiri
  5. Former Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon

The source said the final slot was still being decided upon by a selection committee.

UNA chose guest candidates despite pronouncements against them by its standard bearer Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Binay said he was wary of guest candidates recalling experience in 2013 when some guest candidates dropped UNA.
