Power in Luzon back to normal after rotational brownouts
MANILA, Philippines – The power supply in the Luzon grid went back to normal at around 5 p.m. on Friday just hours after a series of brownouts hit Metro Manila and Bulacan, the Department of Energy (DOE) said.
The DOE quoted the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) as saying its red alert status, which signifies a power supply shortage, was lifted as of 5:03 p.m.

NGCP said Friday’s rotating brownout was due to outages in some power plants, particularly the Pagbilao plant in Quezon.
During the peak hours of 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., the capacity of the grid was at 8,139 megawatts when the demand was at 8,403 MW, causing a shortfall of 264 MW, NGCP said.
The affected areas are Manila, Quezon City, Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Bulacan, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said.
