MANILA, Philippines — Parts of the country are expected to experience rain on Monday, June 16, due to the easterlies and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the state weather bureau.
In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the easterlies, the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean, will prevail over Luzon and Visayas.
Meanwhile, the ITCZ—where winds from the Northern and Southern Hemispheres meet—will affect Mindanao.

“This area of Quezon and the Bicol Region, due to the easterlies, can expect cloudy skies and scattered rain showers with thunderstorms,” weather specialist Daniel Villamil said.
He also said Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will experience generally fair weather, with chances of rain due to the easterlies.
Meanwhile, the easterlies will bring rain to the entire Visayas, where thunderstorm activity has already been recorded in Central and Western Visayas.
“We can expect the cloudy weather to persist in this area, with most of the rain likely to occur in the afternoon and evening,” Villamil said.

Fair weather is expected in Mindanao and Palawan due to the ITCZ, although there are chances of sudden rains in the afternoon and evening, he added.
No gale warning has been raised over any of the country’s seaboards. However, Villamil advised that offshore thunderstorm activity may still bring strong winds and rising tides.
Pagasa also said that no low-pressure area is currently being monitored within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Last Friday, Tropical Depression Auring weakened into a low-pressure area and exited PAR. It began crossing a large part of Taiwan the same day and was the country’s first recorded cyclone in 2025./mcm
