MANILA, Philippines — The Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island released over 2,000 tons of sulfur dioxide in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Thursday.
According to Phivolcs’ latest 24-hour monitoring, a total of 2,014 tons of sulfur dioxide were emitted from Kanlaon, higher than the 1,294 tons recorded the previous day.
Seven volcanic earthquakes were recorded, fewer than the 11 quakes logged earlier.

The volcano produced a weak emission, generating a 75-meter-high plume that drifted east-northeast.
Phivolcs said the volcano’s edifice remains inflated. Kanlaon is still under Alert Level 3, indicating a high level of volcanic unrest.
