Kanlaon Volcano records 11 volcanic quakes in past 24 hours

MANILA, Philippines — Eleven volcanic earthquakes were recorded at Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island over the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said on Wednesday.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Phivolcs also reported a sulfur dioxide emission of 1,294 tons on Tuesday.

With this, the agency said Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3, indicating magmatic unrest.
Phivolcs recommends the evacuation of all residents within a six-kilometer radius of the volcano’s summit under the current alert level.
It also warned that flying aircraft near the volcano is prohibited. Residents were cautioned about possible hazards, including sudden explosive eruptions, lava flows, ashfall, rockfalls, lahars during heavy rains, and pyroclastic flows./mcm
