MANILA, Philippines — Education Secretary Sonny Angara warned on Monday that schools found to have anomalies in the Senior High School Voucher Program (SHS‑VP) will face sanctions.

He delivered this message during an ambush interview at Barihan Elementary School in Malolos City, Bulacan, ahead of the nationwide kickoff of Brigada Eskwela 2025.

“If the school refuses to pay, they can be charged. Even the school officials can be charged for this,” Angara said.

Last March, the Department of Education (DepEd) removed 55 private schools from its SHS‑VP after discrepancies were found in their billing statements in the Learners’ Information System.

The SHS-VP, co-implemented by the DepEd and the Private Education Assistance Committee, is a financial assistance initiative that provides subsidies in the form of vouchers to qualified learners enrolled in participating private or non-DepEd public senior high schools./mcm
