ILIGAN CITY — Bangsamoro Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua on Friday morning led the takbir at the Bangsamoro Government Center grounds in observance of Eid al-Adha in Cotabato City.

The takbir, a sacred Islamic chant, is recited before the Eid al-Adha congregational prayer that glorifies and expresses deep gratitude and reverence to God.

On Friday, Muslims observed Eid al-Adha or the Festival of Sacrifice, one of the most important Islamic feasts that recalls the prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son when asked to do so by God.

Macacua’s leading the takbir symbolizes his bringing together the Bangsamoro region in spiritual unity and devotion.

Macacua, who is military chief of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, rose to the helm of the BARMM upon appointment by President Marcos last March.

He will preside over the transition from a set of appointed BARMM leaders to duly elected ones.

Also on Friday, Macacua expressed full support to ongoing preparations by the national government to ensure that the upcoming regional parliamentary elections in October are held without hitches

According to him, the political exercise “is integral to ensuring that the voices of the Bangsamoro people are heard and that their choices shape the future of our region.”

“Together, we shall build a brighter tomorrow founded on the principles of Islam, democracy, and justice,” Macacua said in a statement. Ryan D. Rosauro, Inquirer Mindanao
