MANILA, Philippines 鈥� The Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island emitted 2,842 tons of sulfur dioxide in the past 24 hours, surpassing the previous record of 1,756 tons, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Friday.

Phivolcs also recorded 26 volcanic earthquakes, significantly higher than the previous count of six.
The volcano鈥檚 edifice remains inflated as it produced a moderate 400-meter-high plume that drifted southwest.
Kanlaon鈥檚 alert status remains at Alert Level 3, indicating a high level of volcanic unrest.
The public is warned of potential volcanic hazards, including the following:
- Sudden explosive eruptions
- Lava flows or effusions
- Ashfall
- Pyroclastic density currents
- Rockfalls
- Lahars during heavy rainfall

Phivolcs also recommended the evacuation of residents within a six-kilometer radius of Kanlaon. The flying of any aircraft near the volcano is also prohibited./mcm
