MANILA, Philippines — Suspected drugs valued at a total of P16.5 million were discovered in three packages at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Central Mail Exchange Center (Naia CMEC) on Thursday.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) announced this in a statement.
PDEA said the first package, declared as a “brand shirt pack” from the United States, contained a vacuum-sealed transparent plastic bag with suspected marijuana kush weighing 240 grams.
Further, the second package, sent from Thailand, contained three white boxes each containing an undetermined number of transparent plastic bags also with suspected marijuana kush weighing a total of 618 grams.
Then, the third package, which was shipped from Poland, contained a coffee marker hiding five transparent plastic bags with suspected ketamine weighing 3,025 grams, PDEA said.
All in all, PDEA estimated the value of the suspected ketamine at P15.125 million while the total amount of the suspected marijuana kush was valued at P1.123 million.
“All three parcels initially underwent x-ray screening by a Bureau of Customs inspector and were flagged as suspicious. After several months without any claimant, the parcels were tagged as abandoned,” PDEA explained.
“Upon the issuance of an order from the Bureau of Customs, a K9 inspection was conducted by the PDEA Airport Interdiction Unit, which yielded a positive indication for the presence of dangerous drugs, prompting a thorough examination and subsequent seizure,” it added.
