MRT-3 to offer free rides on June 12

MANILA, Philippines — Free rides will be offered to passengers of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on June 12 in observance of the 127th Philippine Independence Day, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Thursday morning.
In a Facebook post, the DOTr said free rides will be available from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on June 12.

“This is in accordance with the order of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to offer initiatives aimed at easing transportation costs and promoting appreciation for important national occasions,” the DOTr said.
Earlier, Malacañang declared June 12 a regular holiday in celebration of Independence Day.
Falling on a Thursday this year, the occasion is observed annually to commemorate the Philippines’ declaration of independence from Spanish rule./mcm
