MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has sold, as of mid-May, P77.36 million worth of discounted rice to the public through three programs aimed at making the staple more affordable.
Data provided by the DA showed that it recorded P37.65 million in rice sales via the Rice-for-All program from July 15, 2024, to May 15 this year.

About 962.18 metric tons of well-milled rice were sold to 161,497 beneficiaries through selected Kadiwa centers.
The vulnerable, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, and indigents, bought P37.81 million worth of rice under the DA’s P29 rice program from July 5, 2024, up to May 12 this year.
As for the P20 per kilo rice program, sales have so far hit P1.90 million, with 9,487 beneficiaries, from May 13 to May 23.
In the Rice-for-All program, stocks were sourced from rice importers and local traders, with the purchase limit capped at 25 kilograms daily.
