MANILA, Philippines — Rain showers are forecast to persist in most parts of the country on Tuesday due to the effects of the southwest monsoon, or habagat, and the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its 5 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the habagat would continue to bring scattered rains to the Ilocos Region, Benguet, Abra, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon are expected to experience clear weather conditions on Tuesday.
“But we should also expect a high chance of localized thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon and evening, because, as we may recall, the rainy season has already begun,” Dominguez said.

As for Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental, a high chance of rain is forecast due to the ITCZ, the area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet.
“We are also reminding our fellow citizens about the possibility of flash floods and landslides,” Dominguez said.
She added that generally fair weather is expected to continue in Palawan, the Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao, although there remains a high chance of localized thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening.

No typhoons or low-pressure areas, either within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, are currently being monitored, Dominguez said./mcm
