Dipolog, Hinatuan, 24 others to experience dangerous heat indices

MANILA, Philippines — Dipolog in Zamboanga del Sur, Hinatuan in Surigao del Norte, and 24 other areas in the country are forecast to hit dangerous levels of heat indices on Sunday, according to the state weather bureau.

In the updated bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that Dipolog and Hinatuan are expected to hit the highest heat index at 44°C.

Tarlac Agricultural University in Camiling, Tarlac and Davao City in Davao del Sur logged the highest heat index at 44°C on Saturday.

Under the dangerous category, heat index ranges from 42°C to 51°C where heat cramps and heat exhaustion are possible. Meanwhile, continued exposure to the sun may lead to heat stroke.

Pagasa on Sunday said that most areas in Luzon will experience rains due to the southwestern monsoon, or habagat. Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will see more fair weather with chances of rain.
