3 nabbed for alleged gunrunning in Makati

MANILA, Philippines — Three individuals were arrested for alleged gunrunning in Makati City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Tuesday.
In a statement, the NCRPO said the Southern Police District (SPD) arrested a 26-year-old man, “John,” a 52-year-old reporter, “Gaynor,” and a 52-year-old maintenance worker, “Rodrigo,” in a buy-bust operation on Monday night.
“All three suspects failed to present any valid firearm documents or Comelec (Commission on Elections) exemption,” it added.
According to police, John was found with three rifles, three 5.56 caliber magazines, and four firearm registration cards under his name.
Meanwhile, Gaynor was caught with one pistol, four .45 caliber magazines, 16 rounds of live ammunition, and a black side holster.
The NCRPO said Gaynor was also found in possession of a license to own and possess firearms, a firearm registration card, a permit to carry, a Bureau of Internal Revenue ID, and a media identification card.
Police also said Rodrigo was found in possession of two .45 caliber magazines, two 9mm magazines, 13 rounds of live ammunition, an ammunition case, and a license to own and possess a firearm.

The NCRPO said the suspects violated Republic Act 10591 or the Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in connection with Republic Act 7166 and Comelec Resolution 11067, which prohibits guns during the election period between January 12 and June 11.
The suspects were brought to the SPD District Special Operations Unit for documentation and filing of appropriate complaints./mcm/abc
