Barangay chairman, 2 others dead in Cavite flag-raising shooting

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay chairman and two more individuals were shot dead while one was seriously injured at a flag-raising ceremony in Cavite province on Monday, the police said.
A report from the Cavite Police Provincial Office said the incident took place inside the Barangay Salitran III Hall in Dasmariñas City at around 9 a.m.
“A flag-raising [ceremony] was being conducted in front of Barangay Salitran III, wherein all the victims were present thereat,” the Cavite police said.

Subsequently, the suspect came from behind, suddenly drew an unknown caliber of firearm and shot the victims,” it added.
Cavite police identified the victims killed only as “Raul,” “Jose,” and “Marvin,” while the injured victim was identified as “Christine.”
The suspect, whom police identified as “Ariel,” killed himself after shooting the victims, Cavite Provincial Police Office public information chief Cpt. Michelle Bastawang said in a message to ɫTV.
All individuals involved in the incident were residents of Barangay Salitran III.
According to the report, Cavite police began collecting closed-circuit television camera footage and requested crime scene operatives to conduct a paraffin test on the suspect./mr
