Quezon City scholarship grants to go up from 40,000 to 80,000 – Belmonte

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte with city youth scholars
MANILA, Philippines — The Quezon City local government is planning to double the city’s scholarship grantees from 40,000 to 80,000 before Mayor Joy Belmonte ends her term in 2028.
Belmonte made this promise on Wednesday during the Kapihan sa Manila Prince Hotel in Manila when she was asked about her plans for her last term.
She said more opportunities will be available to the students if the local government will subsidize their education.
“In terms of education, we have 40,000 scholars at the moment and we plan to double it to 80,000 because I was so inspired by that story of a PMA valedictorian who is a son of a vendor in Batasan Hills,” she recalled.

Belmonte said the city government will gradually increase the grantees until the number reaches 80,000 by 2028.
“They’re not just academic scholars but we also have sports scholars, MA scholarships, PhD scholarships. We also have performing arts scholarships,” the mayor enumerated.
She also said the scholarships are not limited to the four-year college programs as they include scholarships for two-year programs, and technical and vocational programs.
“They are included in the 40,000 – as long as it is job generating and it can help the youth to land a good job,” she specified.
