MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has no plans on what to do next after she finishes her last term as the city’s mayor in 2028.
Belmonte talked about this on Wednesday during the Kapihan sa Manila Prince Hotel Bay when she was asked on what she will do after her term ends.
“At the moment, it’s still a blank. I haven’t thought about it because for me, the goal was that I don’t want to think beyond my current role, and my current role is to lead this city, and it is such a challenging city to lead,” she said.

Belmonte, who has been leading Quezon City since 2019, won her third and last mayoral race with over 1 million votes.
She said she is currently focused on fulfilling her promises to her constituents.
“To think about what’s beyond that, I think it’s unfair for my constituents because I need the three years,” she told reporters.
“I am just focused on the promises I made to the people and on the services that I want to give to them,” Belmote added.
The mayor also emphasized that as the local chief executive of the country’s most populated city, it is important to start the change “on ground.”
She noted that many local government units imitate the innovations that are happening in Quezon City.
