Phivolcs records 52 quakes in Taal Volcano

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) on Tuesday said 52 volcanic earthquakes were recorded within the 24-hour monitoring period.
Of the 52, a total of 23 volcanic quakes lasted from one to five minutes, according to state volcanologists.

Taal’s main crater emitted plumes that reached 2,000 meters moving west-southwest in the past 24 hours due to the upwelling of hot volcanic fluids.
Alert Level 2 remains hoisted over Taal Volcano, which means “sudden steam-or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas can occur and threaten areas within and around” the volcano, according to Phivolcs.
