MANILA, Philippines — The Civil Service Commission (CSC) and other government agencies are trying to come up with a design for an outer garment that can be used by government workers so they can be better protected against the new coronavirus on their way to their work places.

During the Laging Handa public briefing on Wednesday, CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada said the agency is currently getting in touch with the Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Science and Technology through the Philippine Textile Research Institute, and the Philippine Fashion Council regarding the initiative.

“We are trying to come up with a garment for government workers. We need to protect ‘yung mga empleyado ng gobyerno especially now and next year because we still do not know kung meron na po tayong vaccine, so ang inaayos po natin is we are hoping that we will be able to come out with a protective outerwear for government employees,” she said.

Lizada said the protective outer garment can be worn by government employees on their way to work, inside offices, and on their way to their homes. They will then remove it when they arrive at their residences.

“At least ‘yung inner po nila ay protected sila so we are working on the garment, hoping it will pass the test and functionality standards para sa proteksyon ng mga empleyado,” she said.
