Aussie, trike driver killed in road crashes in La Union, Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY — An Australian motorcycle rider and a tricycle driver were killed while eight others were hurtÌýon SundayÌýin four separate road accidents in the provinces of La Union and Pangasinan.

Australian motorcycle rider Paul Phipps, 46, died instantly in aÌý12:40 p.m.Ìýcollision with a van at the Marcos Highway in Barangay (village) Cares in Pugo town, La Union, according to Senior Insp. Joel Soriano, Pugo police chief.

In Sta. Maria town in Pangasinan, Manny Montero, 46, was killed when his tricycle collided with a sports utility vehicle (SUV) atÌý1:40 p.m.Ìýin Barangay Paitan.

Montero suffered head injuries and died while being brought to the ÌýEastern Pangasinan District Hospital (EPDH) in Tayug town.

In San Quintin town, the driver and four passengers of an SUV were injured after their vehicle rammed an electric pole in Barangay Alac at aboutÌý1 p.m.

SUV driver Arturo Tique, 58, and his passengers Rizalino Maliwat, 30, Judy Dominguez, 56, Arturo Vengazo, 48, and Ronnie Galima, 40, were taken to the EPDH.

In Mangaldan town, a tricycle driver and his two children were injured when they were sideswiped by a van atÌý12:30 p.m.Ìýin Barangay Banaoang.

Melvin Michael Fabila and his children Mark Kevin Fabila, 12, and Princess Marian Fabila, 6, were rushed to the Region1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for treatment.
