Supporters of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno decried alleged efforts to adjust the law to allow her removal from office without the constitutionally-mandated impeachment process.

The Liberal Democrats for Justice insisted that the rule of law must prevail now that the Supreme Court (SC) is on the verge of deciding on the controversial quo warranto petition, which seeks to remove the country鈥檚 top magistrate from office.

鈥淭he rule of law, not of man, must prevail. Yielding to those in power, and not to the law, is not right,鈥 the group said in a statement on Friday.

鈥淒isregarding the law 鈥 whether in national issues such as the plot to kick out Chief Justice Sereno or in global issues such as the militarization in the West Philippine Sea 鈥 is not right,鈥 it added.

The group said the law 鈥渕ust be predictable鈥 and lamented the law鈥檚 alleged distortion to cater to 鈥渢he whims of those in power.鈥

鈥淭he law must be predictable. Changing the law in the middle of the match is not right. Using the law for the whims of those in power is not right,鈥 the group said.

鈥淭he wrong is being normalized. The right is being twisted,鈥 it also said.

Among the signatories of the Liberal Democrats for Justice鈥檚 statement were Liberal Party officials and members 鈥 former President Benigno S. Aquino III, Senators Kiko Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, Bam Aquino, and Leila de Lima.

The signatories vowed to continue to 鈥渇ight for a Supreme Court that stands for a just rule of law.鈥

鈥淲e will fight for the soul of the Philippines,鈥 they said. Gabriel Pabico Lalu, 好色先生TV/kga
