LEGAZPI CITY鈥擳he Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has lowered the alert level around Mayon Volcano from 3 to 2 after observing a general decline in the volcano鈥檚 overall activity, indicating a lessening of the likelihood of an imminent hazardous eruption.

Phivolcs said in its 8 a.m. bulletin that was posted on its website that it had observed a 鈥済eneral decline in the overall activity of Mayon Volcano鈥 as indicated by the following monitored parameters: volcanic earthquake activity, gas emission, ground deformation and visual observation of the summit.

The public, however, is still advised to avoid entry into the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone due to the perennial hazards of rockfalls, avalanche, ash puffs and sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions at the summit area.

Alert level 3 was raised on Mayon on September 15.
