MANILA, Philippines 鈥 Interior Secretary Manuel Roxas II said he would investigate the complaint of Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno about police disobedience.
Sereno slammed last Thursday the Philippine National Police (PNP) at the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines forum聽for 鈥渞efusing鈥 to implement court orders particularly those involving the killing of media practitioners.
鈥淥ur courts in the provinces have been acting [on cases] but many local police forces have refused to implement our orders that include cases involving journalists,鈥 Sereno said. 鈥
As a response, Roxas vowed to investigate the alleged PNP negligence in enforcing court matters.
鈥淚 would look into [Chief Justice] Sereno鈥檚 concerns that our local police authorities are not enforcing court orders that include cases involving journalists,鈥 Roxas said in a statement.
He said he would cooperate with the Supreme Court in getting into the bottom of the matter.
鈥庘漈he Chief Justice, however, could not immediately give figures on how many orders and writs had been unserved, saying she was still in the middle of conducting her own investigation to address this problem, which she said has been practiced by law enforcers 鈥榝or a significant number of years鈥 already,鈥 Roxas added.
The PNP organization is one of the DILG鈥檚 attached agencies.
