In Gaza, it鈥檚 the 鈥榬ubble bucket challenge鈥�
MANILA, Philippines—Will you put yourself under a bucket of rocks and dirt for a good cause?
Riding on the popularity of the Ice Bucket Challenge which aims to raise donations for people living with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a “Palestinian version” was done using dust and rubble from the strife-torn country asking for solidarity and support for the people of Gaza.
Gaza activist and literature student Maysam Yusef posted the first “Rubble Bucket Challenge” video last week to “raise awareness about the ethnic cleansing on Gaza.”
Palestinian journalist Ayman Aloul released a video Saturday doing what he called as “Remains Challenge”.
In his video, Aloul explained that he came up with the “Palestine version” by using the rubble from destroyed buildings.
Aloul said that although he liked the Ice Bucket Challenge, the “use of water is far more important than to empty over our heads.”
The Palestinian journalist also said that he posted the video not to ask for material aid for Palestinians but “solidarity positions” from influential people.
Aloul’s video has 144,097 views as of Tuesday and netizens from various countries have accepted and performed the challenge.
Meanwhile, the Rubble Bucket Challenge Facebook page has 4,199 likes as of Tuesday.
