MANILA, Philippines– At least 233 ship passengers are stranded in the Cebu City port due to bad weather spawned by Typhoon “Henry” (international name: Matmo), the Philippine Coast Guard said on Sunday.
In a report posted on its website, the Department of Transportation and Communications-attached command on Sunday also said three interisland vessels were taking shelter at the same port.
The PCG has alerted all its units in in the eastern part of the country for the possible effects of the latest weather disturbance.
Tropical storm Henry intensified into a typhoon Saturday afternoon. However, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, or Pagasa said it was not expected to directly affect the nation.
At 5.pm. Sunday, Henry was spotted some 530 kilometers east of Guian, Eastern Samar, with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
Pagasa said it was moving at 19 kph northwest.
