MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Auring has weakened into a low-pressure area (LPA) and is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said early Friday morning.

In Pagasa’s 5 a.m. update, Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said Auring, which became a cyclone at 8 p.m. on Thursday and was the first to form in the country in 2025, began crossing a large part of Taiwan.
“As of 2 a.m. this morning, it had already left the [PAR], and at the same time, it weakened again into an LPA,” Estareja said.
The LPA was last spotted 580 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes, outside the PAR, and is heading toward eastern China.

The trough of the LPA continues to affect Batanes province, which could cause rain showers on Friday.
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon, or habagat, is still expected to bring rain over Northern Luzon.
Estareja said the rest of the country would be affected by the easterlies—the warm winds from the Pacific Ocean—and the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), or the line where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet.
“The ITCZ and easterlies are likely to cause rains in large parts of the country in the coming days,” he added./mcm
