MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression Auring (formerly low-pressure area 6b) may make landfall in Taiwan by Friday early morning, June 13.
This was according to the tropical cyclone bulletin by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday night.
“Auring is forecast to continue moving north-northwestward and may make landfall over Taiwan between tonight and tomorrow early morning,” Pagasa said in its bulletin.
“Due to land interaction, rapid weakening is expected and Auring may be downgraded to a low pressure area tomorrow,” the agency added.
Auring was last spotted 295 kilometers north of Itbayat town, Batanes province as of 10 p.m., moving north-northwestward at 15 km per hour, according to Pagasa’s bulletin.
The tropical depression now has a maximum wind speed of 45 kph and a gustiness of 55 kph.
Pagasa projected that Auring was on track to be outside the Philippine area of responsibility, or 690 km north of Itbayat, by Friday night.
The agency did not raise any tropical cyclone wind signals.
