MANILA, Philippines — Two field men of an electricity company were arrested for allegedly attempting to have a man settle a disconnection notice through their supposed contact for P20,000, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the CIDG said the arrests were the result of an entrapment operation in Barangay San Lucas 1, San Pablo City, Laguna last June 3.

Police identified the suspects as “Jay-Ar” and “Alden.”

According to the CIDG, the suspects initially presented the victim with a disconnection notice, although it was not specified when this happened.

“The suspects told the victim not to inform the homeowner association and threatened him to pay a fine of P300,000 to P400,000 fine if he did,” the CIDG said.

“They then offered to resolve the issue through an alleged Meralco (Manila Electric Company) contact person in exchange for P20,000,” the police added.

The suspects may face a case of robbery-extortion in relation to Republic Act 7832 or the Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act, CIDG further detailed. /cb
