MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau said Wednesday that it is monitoring cloud clusters over the Philippine Sea, which may develop into a low-pressure area (LPA) within two days.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) also said it is monitoring a tropical depression outside the country’s boundary, more than 600 kilometers west of Zambales.

“It is moving away from the country towards Southern China,” weather specialist Benison Estareja said in a morning forecast.

“Meanwhile, we continue to monitor the cloud cluster east of our country over the Philippine Sea and based on our analysis, we do not see any possibility of it becoming a tropical cyclone, but we are not ruling out the chance that an LPA could develop there within the next two days, so we will continue to monitor it,” he added.

Estareja said that for the rest of the day, most parts of the country will experience overcast skies and rain showers due to the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat.

Heavy rainfall is expected in most parts of Central and Southern Luzon, as well as in Palawan, Antique, Caraga, and the Davao Region.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers from afternoon to evening due to the habagat.

Despite this, Estareja said Pagasa has not issued a gale warning for any of the country’s seaboards./mcm
