CA okays appointments of 2 Comelec commissioners; 84 AFP officers

MANILA, Philippines — The (CA) greenlighted on Tuesday the ad interim appointments of two commissioners of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

No members of the body objected when the motion to approve the appointments of Commissioners Maria Norina Tangaro-Casingal and Noli Rafol Pipo were raised in the plenary.

Initially scheduled on June 4, the deliberations on the appointments of Tangaro-Casingal and Pipo were suspended and moved to June 11 due to lack of material time.

Apart from the confirmation of the two commissioners, the body likewise approved the promotion of 84 senior officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

“It is both an honor and a privilege to stand before you today as your chairperson to the committee on national defense filled with gratitude for the unwavering dedication and sacrifice that you — the members of the AFP embody everyday,” said Camiguin Lone Distric Rep. JJ Romualdo in his speech prior the CA’s approval.

“After thorough deliberation regarding their qualifications and fitness, your committee is assured that they possess the necessary attributes to be promoted to the ranks to which they have been appointed,” he added.
