MANILA, Philippines — National Security Adviser Eduardo Año will remain in President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s Cabinet as long as his health allows, a Palace official said on Tuesday.

At a Palace briefing, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro was asked for an update on Año’s courtesy resignation.

“The President agrees that he [Año] can continue to do the fine job he has been doing; maaaring manatili si Sec. Año hangga’t kakayanin ng kanyang kalusugan (Sec. Año may stay on as long as his health permits),” Casteo replied.

Castro added that Año has been dealing with health issues since the pandemic but agreed to stay in the National Security Council.

On May 22, Marcos called for the courtesy resignation of all Cabinet members as part of his effort to recalibrate his administration following the results of the recent midterm elections.

“The people have spoken, and they expect results — not politics, not excuses. We hear them, and we will act,” he said.

Marcos further said, “It’s time to realign government with the people’s expectations.”
