MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Agriculture (DA) has issued show cause orders against nine pig farms in Central Luzon for allegedly operating without required licenses.
In a statement on Wednesday, Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel said the hog farms are located in Bulacan, Pampanga, and Tarlac.
The show cause orders were served through the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) shortly after the midterm elections in May.
Laurel asserted that the hog farms should “explain why they continue to operate despite bypassing basic health, environmental, and safety regulations.”
He added that unlicensed operations jeopardize national efforts to stabilize pork supply and pricing, especially as the country recovers from the effects of African swine fever (ASF).

“As we modernize Philippine agriculture, everyone must understand that unlicensed operations will not be tolerated,” Laurel said.
“Compliance is not optional—it is fundamental to protecting both consumers and the livelihoods of law-abiding farmers,” he added.
