3 young patients recover from mpox in Cabanatuan City

CABANATUAN CITY, Philippines — Three school-aged children in this city tested positive for mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) but have since fully recovered, a local health official confirmed Monday.
Edwin Manabat, head of the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU), said the patients — two boys and a girl, all aged 15 or younger — no longer show symptoms.
“Their lesions have completely dried up, which is a clear sign of full recovery,” Manabat said.

The first case was reported in March, followed by the second in April and the third in May.
Manabat said family members of the infected children were placed under strict monitoring but all tested negative for the virus.
He added that the patients live in different barangays, have no known connection to one another, and did not have any recent travel history.
Laboratory tests by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine confirmed the children were infected with the less severe Clade II strain of the mpox virus.
While the cases are considered isolated, Manabat urged the public to maintain proper hygiene as a preventive measure.
