TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — A massive fire broke out early Sunday, June 2, at the intersection of Mabini, Burgos, Real, and Aviles Streets in Barangay South, Ormoc City, Leyte, damaging several commercial establishments.

According to a report from Ormoc City Police Station 1, the fire started around 12:40 a.m. The City Tactical Operations Center alerted authorities, and police personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene.

By the time they arrived, firefighters from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Ormoc City had already begun battling the blaze.

Initial investigations indicated the fire originated from two food stalls — Nicey Burger Junction and Kuya Bord’z Eatery — whose owners have yet to be identified. The flames quickly spread to nearby structures, destroying six establishments and partially damaging five others.

Firefighters declared the blaze under control at 2:23 a.m., and it was fully extinguished by 3:44 a.m.

No civilian casualties were reported, though one BFP personnel was injured during the operation.

Property damage was estimated at P8.4 million.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have urged affected business owners to cooperate with investigators as part of the ongoing probe and to help improve fire safety measures in the area.
