Marcos enjoins NIA to ramp up services to farmers
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday asked the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to strengthen its commitment to helping farmers and addressing irrigation problems nationwide.
Marcos made the announcement as he led the ceremonial turnover of 229 newly procured operations and maintenance equipment and vehicles under the third tranche of the NIA’s re-fleeting program in Taguig City.

In his speech during the event, Marcos highlighted how the new equipment will enable the NIA to repair damaged irrigation systems and construct new water projects, which will benefit farmers, especially given the effects of climate change.
“That is why I ask all NIA personnel to take care of and correctly use the vehicles and facilities. I have witnessed your hard work and service to the farmers. However, I ask that you further strengthen your commitment to service — listen to their concerns,” Marcos said in Filipino.
“Do not wait for the farmers to come to you; take the initiative to reach out to them, accelerate your response to their concerns, and above all, serve with honesty and integrity. Let us not waste the trust that the people have entrusted to us,” Marcos added.
Marcos likewise reiterated his administration’s respect and gratitude to farmers, tagging them as one of the pillars of the Philippines.

He vowed that the government would not stop implementing programs that aim to improve their livelihood, ensuring that it would be enough for their daily needs.
