MANILA, Philippines — Outgoing Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil hopes his newly appointed successor, Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, will restructure the law enforcement agency to make it a “flatter” organization.
Last October, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla proposed addressing the PNP’s “top-heavy” hierarchy by trimming down the agency’s number of generals.
“Hopefully, with General Nick Torre, maayos natin yung reorganization natin. We are going for a flatter organization, more specialized, dealing with crimes,” Marbil said in a chance interview with reporters in Camp Crame on Friday.
(Hopefully, with General Nick Torre, we can fix up our reorganization. We are going for a flatter organization, more specialized, dealing with crimes.)

The outgoing PNP chief was asked if he had already spoken with his incoming successor.
“Kilala ko naman ever since si General Torre. Sabi ko, ‘Just continue the reform. Kung ano yung nakikita mong kailangan nating improve-in, kung ano yung pagkakamali during my time, we have to correct it.’ I know he’s better than me,” Marbil answered.
