MANILA, Philippines 鈥� The heat index in Infanta, Quezon is forecast to soar to a dangerous 46掳C on Friday, May 30, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

The heat index, according to Pagasa, measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to the combined effects of temperature and air humidity.

Heat indices from 42掳颁 to 51掳C are under the 鈥渄anger鈥� level category, as they聽may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.

Continued exposure to the sun may even lead to heat stroke, the weather bureau also said.

Pagasa said the following areas are also expected to sizzle with a 鈥渄anger鈥� level heat index, aside from Infanta:

• Baler (Radar), Aurora
• Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte
• Surigao City, Surigao del Norte

• Aparri, Cagayan
• ISU Echague, Isabela
• Casiguran, Aurora
• CLSU, Science City of Mu帽oz, Nueva Ecija
• Alabat, Quezon
• Iloilo City, Iloilo
• Dumangas, Iloilo
• Butuan City, Agusan del Norte

Meanwhile, the two monitoring areas in Metro Manila would experience an 鈥渆xtreme caution鈥� level heat index, with NAIA, Pasay City at 40掳C and Science Garden, Quezon City at 39掳C.

Heat indices from 33掳C to 41掳C fall within the 鈥渆xtreme danger鈥� threshold, as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke are also possible upon continued exposure to the sun, said Pagasa. /das
