Pagasa: 46°C heat index forecast in Infanta, Quezon

MANILA, Philippines — The heat index in Infanta, Quezon is forecast to soar to a dangerous 46°C on Friday, May 30, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
The heat index, according to Pagasa, measures the level of discomfort an average person experiences due to the combined effects of temperature and air humidity.

Heat indices from 42°C to 51°C are under the “danger” level category, as they may cause heat cramps and heat exhaustion.
Continued exposure to the sun may even lead to heat stroke, the weather bureau also said.

Pagasa said the following areas are also expected to sizzle with a “danger” level heat index, aside from Infanta:

- Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte
- Surigao City, Surigao del Norte

- Aparri, Cagayan
- ISU Echague, Isabela
- Casiguran, Aurora
- CLSU, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija
- Alabat, Quezon
- Iloilo City, Iloilo
- Dumangas, Iloilo
- Butuan City, Agusan del Norte
Meanwhile, the two monitoring areas in Metro Manila would experience an “extreme caution” level heat index, with NAIA, Pasay City at 40°C and Science Garden, Quezon City at 39°C.
Heat indices from 33°C to 41°C fall within the “extreme danger” threshold, as heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke are also possible upon continued exposure to the sun, said Pagasa. /das
