MANILA, Philippines — It looked like a scene straight out of “The Ring”—only this time, Sadako didn’t crawl out of a cursed videotape but out of a Makati City sewer in broad daylight.
A social media post Monday by RoughMasterpiecei about a person emerging from a sewer and crawling onto the street like a horror movie character has gone viral, leaving Metro Manila netizens amused and authorities scrambling for answers.
RoughMasterpiecei reported seeing the individual—initially believed by police to be a man but later identified as a woman—running toward them.
According to the netizen, a “military man on a scooter” was near them during the incident.
“She ran past me, the military guy in pursuit. A few pedestrians, motorcyclists and even the traffic enforcer just stood there stunned, confused, maybe even a little amused,” RoughMasterpiecei said in their post.

The incident took place around 4:16 p.m. on May 26 at the corner of Rufino and Adelantado Streets in Salcedo Village, Barangay Bel-Air, according to a report from the Makati City Police Station.
Police said the woman was believed to be a street dweller, locally referred to as “taong grasa,” who was known to rest in a canal near Makati Medical Center.
“The Makati Police Station immediately coordinated with Makati Commercial Estate Association and immediately checked that said canal and installed a metal cover to the said opening to avoid the same incident,” the police report said.
“The Makati Public Safety Department has already been informed to monitor the place,” it added.
Police are now reviewing closed-circuit television footage from nearby establishments to verify the claim that a “military man on a scooter” was chasing the woman. /cb/dm
