Marcos’ unity call prevails in House as proven by supermajority – solon
House of Representatives
MANILA, Philippines — The new supermajority emerging in the House of Representatives shows that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s call for unity still stands, Deputy Speaker David Suarez said on Monday.
He said this meant that officials were backing the administration’s legislative agenda “grounded on reform, stability and meaningful public service.”
According to the House official, 279 out of the 285 lawmakers who expressed support for Romualdez to continue his speakership into the 20th Congress had already signed a manifesto of support.
“This is the most cohesive and confident House we have seen in decades,” Suarez said.
“It is not just a supermajority in numbers but a supermajority borne out of trust, built on performance and held together by the strong, principled and competent leadership of Speaker Romualdez,” he added.
Prior to this, Suarez on Sunday said four of the six Liberal Party (LP) members who got House seats in the 20th Congress are now part of the majority.
The deputy speaker said the bloc now consists of Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats, which is his and Romualdez’s party, the Nacionalista Party, National Unity Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, the Party-list Coalition Foundation Inc., and now, the LP.

As the House of the 19th Congress wraps up its duties, there were rumors as to who would possibly lead the House for the 20th Congress.
One of those believed to succeed Romualdez is Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, who was the campaign manager for the Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate.
However, key members and leaders of different parties in the House said they will support another term for Romualdez. /apl
