MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed a law increasing the bed capacity at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
Republic Act No. 12210, also known as An Act Increasing the Bed Capacity of the Philippine General Hospital From One Thousand Three Hundred Thirty-Four (1,334) to Two Thousand Two Hundred (2,200) Beds, and Appropriating Funds Therefor, was signed on May 21 and uploaded on the Official Gazette on May 23.

The law stated that the workforce, existing facilities, and professional health care services of the PGH shall be upgraded to conform to, and be commensurate with, the increase in its bed capacity.
“The amount necessary for the effective implementation of this Act shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act,” it also said.
“If any provision or part of this Act is declared unconstitutional, the remaining parts or provisions not affected shall remain in full force and effect,” the newly signed law also read.

Moreover, all laws, executive orders, issuances, and rules and regulations that are inconsistent with the act were repealed or amended as necessary.
The law will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper of general circulation.
